Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Generative AI (Gen AI), has rapidly transitioned from a conceptual technology to a core business imperative. Its integration into enterprise software aims to provide a significant competitive advantage for early and effective adopters, enabling hyper-personalization at a 1:1 level and connecting experiences across multi-channel interactions.

The EU AI Act and Global Risk Framework Regulatory scrutiny on AI is accelerating globally, demanding proactive governance from organizations. The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) establishes the world's first comprehensive, risk-based legal framework for AI.

Regulatory pressure is high because existing legislation is inadequate in addressing the specific challenges of AI, particularly the lack of system explainability (the difficulty in determining why an AI system made a specific decision). This explainability gap makes it challenging to assess whether a person has been unfairly disadvantaged.

To ensure compliance with the recently enacted regulations, companies, especially those in regulated sectors like financial services, must take immediate, non-optional steps. These steps include:

  • Conducting a thorough inventory of all AI systems in use (including those sourced from third parties).

  • Performing a comprehensive gap analysis against the new regulatory requirements.

  • Formally establishing an AI governance framework and enhancing data management protocols.

Proactive AI governance is rapidly shifting from a cost of compliance to a competitive advantage.
